ETIPS
ETIPS is an online learning resource designed to enhance the decision-making skills of teachers using technology in the classroom. ETIPS offers a case-oriented approach to learning with an embedded suite of assessment tools for immediate feedback on a student's critical thinking strategies. ETIPS asked us to improve their website’s usability, design a new look and feel and improve the user interface of their assessment tools.
Solving a Complex Applications with a Clear Design
The core of the ETIPS project is a unique set of assessment tools. Students
learn using cases, or virtual schools, that contain a set of problems that
must be navigated and solved within a real-world scenario. A student’s progress
is measured by the decisions they make as they navigate the site and decide
what to click while answering each case challenge. ETIPS charts a student’s
progress and offers an online essay-scoring tool that “automagically” grades
a student’s work before it’s submitted, allowing for revisions and increasing
learning. Our clear and direct design makes navigating the site easy for
new students and transitioned well when the site was upgraded to embrace
Web Standards with a CSS based architecture in 2004.
