Raíces
Raíces is a four-state, four year project focused on building community capacity in rural Latino communities in Iowa, Minnesota, Idaho, and Oregon. The organization stresses long-term collaboration among organizations and community members as a means to build the capacity of rural Latino communities. Raíces asked us to develop a new multilingual website for its community that encourages users to find local resources and events in the four states the organization serves.
A key component of the site is a Mercado de Recursos that offers a searchable database of community resources that users can access to find local resources that help with community organizing and outreach. We created an efficient user interface that allows users to easily search for resources in the Mercado and then save them to a shopping cart or "basket" for later use.
A second key feature of the project was a set of multilingual editing tools that allows Raíces staff to maintain and track the site's content in both English and Spanish. Users can easily switch back and forth between the two languages for all of the site's content as the browse through resources and news for their local community.
