Managing Content on the Authors Guild Web Site
The Authors Guild is the nation's oldest and largest professional society of published authors, representing more than 8,000 writers. The Guild came to us with a ten year old web site that had some content management tools but contained large sections of static HTML that still had to be coded by hand. Staff had learned to live with the site but found it difficult to add new sections and update the navigation to accommodate fresh content.
We built the new AuthorsGuild.org from the ground up around our custom Content Management System and a backend database that makes updating the site much easier. New form tools allow Guild members to update their personal information, such as recent publications and website links, directly to the site's database for quick approval by staff which eases the burden of managing content.
AuthorsGuild.org also functions as a news portal for members with an updated Advocacy section that highlights recent events and articles related to copyright and industry trends. We created a custom news tool for staff that makes connecting related articles easier and designed a new section called "News and Notes" for more calendar oriented events.
